The Question

What is the impact of the re-booted micro:bit school roll-out on primary school pupils and teachers, and what are the barriers to use?

The Approach

An ongoing longitudinal impact evaluation, including:

  • Pre-launch evaluation in 2023: online surveys with teachers, students (aged 7-11) and their parents to set the benchmark of IT literacy skills, awareness and understanding for teachers and pupils
  • Post-launch research (ongoing): A mixed approach to assess the impact of micro:bit 1) online surveys with teachers, students and parents 2) Online forum with students and parents 3) School visits and interviews with members of the Senior Leadership Team, teachers and students

The Outcome

The research has already been used to create a number of stories for press release to increase awareness and understanding of the programme amongst pupils, parents and teachers.

The post stage evaluation will support the continuation of the programme and guide improvements in processes and comms.
