As a straight-talking Yorkshire woman Jo is not afraid to say it as it is.
With a mission to provide inclusive research and give a voice to children, youth and families from all backgrounds, Jo took her psychology degree and years of research expertise and founded Platypus Research.
Jo is a child, youth and family specialist with expertise in qualitative and quantitative research. She has spent the last 25 years working with organisations of all sizes from public and commercial sectors, supporting with bespoke projects and sharing her expertise to help them succeed in the youth and family market. She is a certified member of the Market Research Society and a regular speaker at conferences internationally.
Jo is currently studying for a PhD at the Leeds Carnegie School of Sport sponsored by Women in Sport delving into how gender stereotypes effect boys and girls in sport.
Jo truly loves her job and feels passionate about using her work to dispel stereotypes, correct assumptions and promote equality for young people and families. She has conducted extensive research within the sports, education and not for profit sectors raising awareness of the issues CYP in diverse backgrounds face and helping to create inclusive services and communications.
Special interests: Gender stereotypes and Neurodiversity
At home, Jo has three children and a very neurodiverse household! She loves nature, enjoys
walks in the countryside and wildlife/ bird spotting. She has hidden talents in hula hooping and
has played for her local women’s rugby team. Jo has an eclectic taste in music and comedy
with Prodigy, Kate Bush and Reeves and Mortimer being her all-time favourites.
